Warrior at the Edge of Time is from 1975 and psychedelic era wasn't over for many. Hawkwind from around 1969 and Jefferson Airplane just a handful of year older. Hawkwind stil had Lemmy with them but he would be canned before long. He took title of a song he wrote for his band. For some reason the warrior on the cover always makes me think of Don Don Quixote I guess because it's a guy with a long spear on a horse. Michael Moorcock was in on this one contributed to several songs. I probably wrote about his collaboration with Blue Oyster Cult sometime or other. When I bought my first vinyl copy I had a little old Pioneer SX-something, about 40 watts. Pair of Bose 301s. One time I cranked Assault and Battery/Golden Void too high one time too many and the sax part took out the tweeters. Was beginning to think they were a little small anyway and the receiver too so I upgraded both. Sounds pretty good on my new setup of course in a 30 x 20 room with good acoustics for that sort of thing.

Okey-dokey, lessee what we got. Wynne Progress combined the big shootings in Conway and Forrest City. Here's the one in Conway and I don't see anything more on the Forrest City one.

Speaking of shootings the Memphis mayor commentated on this one. People get kilt over there about every day, usually more than one. Said some words:

We are not giving in to chaos. We are not standing down. We will continue doing all the hard work necessary to make Memphis stronger and safer. And that means if you create mayhem in Memphis, we will find you and we will push for quick prosecution. We will win the war against violence in Memphis. This is a promise.

WREG.com
Whatever. People been creating mayhem in Memphis for years.

Reckon he would be upset. No more billions of dollars of taxpayer money going to create communists and terrorist sympathizers. Or maybe he still has to pop off once in a while th keep the paycheck coming.

And here I was thinking the Roman empire collapsed because it rotted inside and integrated all kinds of less civilized people. But if some rocks in Iceland got a different opinion it's their business.

You'd think if voters wanted something they'd elect people to make it happen. Did the people they elected not do what they said they would? Guess I don't need the shocked expression. Again.

Is Cheryl a good name for a ... nevermind.

What, Chris?

The usual. When Mack Bolan was asked how he liked his women he replied "alive". That was in response of someone or other accusing him of wanting the women in his life to be barefoot and pregnant. Because being associated with him was dangerous and some of the women in his life came to tragically untimely ends. I like....

What, Chris?

Yeah, right. I said I was gonna maybe put in some other stuff since there ain't much news in NEA. Just ran Destroyer #2 through the filter. They were just getting started so it's not as good as some of the later ones but you can see kinda where it's going.

Finally got some more info on the Harrisburg police chief what got suspended or something. Give NEA Report the link on that one. They usually do the best on things, the others being less than coherent at times and other times tell you nothing except something happened. Since that sort of behavior is pretty common among the Harrisburg law enforcement dunno what may be up. Back in the day I had a relative - second something or other once removed on Mom's side of the family was the sheriff. Seems he had some problems and became unpopular - in Poinsett County that's not necessarily meaning you did something wrong - and failed to be reelected.

Apparently they still have Earth Day some places. Jonestown being one. Dunno if adult beverages are available but it seems like it might be. People wanna get together and talk about planting trees and all I'm good with it and if the wacko types that started it are forgotten so much the better. I planted somewhere around thirty trees last year and finally getting to see how they're doing. Of course it was on my estate and I'm probably bein' selfish somehow. Went to Jonestown today, started late and just some essential business.

Hickory Ridge ain't in the news much and don't seem to have much crime. Don't have many people either. It's one of the wide spots on U.S. 49 and Arkansas 42. Forty-two highway as old-timers call it. Used to drive 42 some back in the day, couple of tricky curves there and I remember one fatality on one of them.

I probably discussed this a time or three. KAIT interview two persons that don't get food stamps and they kinda agreed that people shouldn't be using money taken from taxpayers to buy stuff they don't need and it ain't good for them.

The taxpayers get to pay for junk food that causes people to be obese unhealthy and a lot of those people are on Medicaid so when they get sick we have to pay for that too. But it's for the children so shut up and pay.

Nikki@MyndCryme
"Candy like that is actually kind of luxury these days for families that are struggling," a local daycare owner said when thinking about the children impacted.

The Jonesboro woman chose to remain anonymous, but said she recognizes how crucial it is to start healthy eating habits at a young age.

However, she said everyone deserves the opportunity to indulge.

KAIT.com
As Will Munny said "deserve's got nothing to do with it" but both SNAP and Medicaid have been abused for a long time and it needs to stop. Or we can just wait for the big one to go off and then everybody will have trouble getting food. Except for the preppers.

Actually Democrat agitators are disrupting the Republican events. This one was handled correctly.

The gold bars seem to be a reference to this. The outgoing regime did as much damage as they could on the way out but it seems that a lot of the loot can be recovered. Now all we need is the perps in prison.

Sometimes the trash takes itself out. I see no reason to believe the "tech people" in the Pentagon were of any higher quality than those at the IRS.

I seem to remember commenting on this when it happened but don't see it just now. Anyhow they arrested a couple of guys and several of the locals reported it. Didn't say much - just that they arrrested and got a million bond. They may not be getting out for a while if it all.

Over in Memphis the state government seems to have finally taken an interest in the performance of the DA. About time - not that I have any confidence that actually prosecuting criminals or at least keeping them locked up until trial will improve matters much. They might have to build a bigger jail though.

What Joetato was doing I have no more idea than he probably did. It's hard to believe the party is pushing him out there as part of whatever strategy they might have. Some theorize that his wife is beind it and I can believe that. Lessee, it was back in 2021 when he read one of his rants about how his patience with people not gettin' jabbed was "wearing thin". Well Joe, this pureblood would enjoy your predicament if I thought you had sufficient cognizance to suffer.

The hysteria - and the frantic lying - is everywhere. Not that NPR ever had any credibility with anyone with two brain cells to rub together but they used to be a little more subtle.

Yes, he can. At least the IRS can do it.

The Economist is one of the more rational publications from over the pond. I suspect that President Trump will prevail to a considerable degree. Whether the Poison Ivy League outfits make some conciliatory noises and manage to save their tax-exempt status the federal funds will likely be cut off. As they should be - this fellow's wailing about a war on information is a little off - it's a war of information. People see universities sitting on billions and billions more added to the debt for them to use to make mischief will have little sympathy for them. As for understanding Donald Trump they do a decent job but I doubt anyone can really figure it out completely - I doubt that he does.

Guy from Wynne got arrested in Jonestown for shooting someone in Brinkley back in October. That was a non-fatal shooting. So a guy from Wynne was in Brinkley and shot somebody and about six months later he got arrested in Jonestown. Them people do get around.

Two people found dead in Independence County. That's where Batesville is. This looks like out in the country a ways from there. Says homicide but all that's in the article they was found dead. They don't have much in formation in there but if somebody at the police told them it's a homicide investigation they probably think it was.

South Africa should be grateful for any outside investment. Probably Elon has some affection for his homeland no matter how far it has sunk. The problem that the regime is so corrupt and inept that it is better to just ignore it.

Children may go hungry? The fact is that if the government wasn't so effed-up that something had to be done. I would rather have it be done than the alternative and I seriously doubt any children will starve if it takes a while to clean up the situation. The people running the show are responsible - whether they created the problem or inherited it and didn't do anything to fix it.

One of the bits of MDS that's been going around is that he wants to create a master race of white people. Ya'know, like the Nazis. He at least pays to support his children and doesn't have a dozen or more with the baby-mamas on food stamps and Medicaid and HUD housing. Interestingly the normal sane decent people out here have a lot of kids and they take care of them and a lot homeschool. Meanwhile the lefties kill their kids before they're born. I don't know how much that has to do with Gen Z being more conservative but it probably helped some. We just might survive this without everything falling apart of blowing up if several successive Republican presidents with control of part of all of Congress a substantial part of the time.

I didn't get out of bed without waking Cheryl. Never do. The Commpad didn't wake her but me getting up did. "Going somewhere?" she asks sleepily. Cheryl is thirty-four and once in a while puts on her high school cheerleader uniform to tease old friends who are about our age. Used to anyway, until a couple of years ago. Maybe it made the move with us but if so she's never got it out again. We were inseparable for a dozen years or so after high school. Neither of us bothered going to college - we both worked at a local bank while going to the community college in Franklin City. She was a teller and I worked in accounting while I got an associates in information technology as they called it then and she got hers in accounting. We moved to Farnborough to get our four-year degrees at MSU and worked at a bigger bank there. Then I got hired by a little developer there for a lot more money and we had a pretty good time until things fell apart. "Gordon wants me," I say. The screensaver on the computer across the room clicks over to 0432. Silence. What am I supposed to say? "Go," she says after a minute. "He wouldn't call if it wasn't important." She's right, and I feel like... what do I feel like? Two months ago I came back looking something like no self-respecting cat would bother to drag in. That was sixteen days after Gordon called me at 0-3-something and said he had a small problem. Gordon doesn't call me for small problems. There's a couple dozen guys can handle small problems. I turn and slide off the bed and hit the floor in the position. Hundred and ten. Why didn't I stop at a hundred? Cheryl is sitting there on the bed watching me. I hate doing this to her, she knows but it doesn't make it easier. What would make it easier? Even after three weeks at it I'm still winded at one-ten. Roll over and look up. Strawberry blonde angel looking down at me. Thing is she knows someday there might not be enough of me for the cat to drag in. Sit up, she leans over, silk pajama sleeve brushes my forehead, kisses me. "Go," she says. "I'll be all right." Brush my teeth and run the clipper over the beard, shower and dress. One thing that's always easy - a dozen pairs of olive cargo pants always there, black T-shirt. Put on the knaki long-sleeved shirt over it and button it up about halfway. Pull on boots, grab my favorite boonie hat. One of a half dozen I picked up what seems like a half dozen decades ago instead of only two - this one has a bullet hole in it. Gordon has a station on Emerald Ridge and he's been there a good bit lately and that's where he is now.. I don't know the grand strategy but I know the Southern Alliance as they call it is leaning on his organization quite a bit to keep the north border secure. That's where is is now and I'm on my way back. My old Chevy Scottsdale is about as innocent-looking as anything on the roads and fits right in here. Dad bought a couple of them new back in '75 and they stayed with the farm when he died. My kid brother took the other one and what happened to it I don't know. Him either, last I heard he was in the deal at Cherry Valley and hope he made it out but info on that has been hard to come by. Cassie as I call her is on her fourth engine and third tranny. Old Chevies were tough. Not as tough as the Dodges but there you are. Cassie and I are closer than me and Cheryl by a ways but I won't be the one to say it. Cassie is a truck and Cheryl is another thing entirely. She is kinda fond of Cassie though, but maybe because Cassie got us out of that little kerfluffle with the feds. Thirty-something miles of bad backroads trying to get to a safe place can do that to you. It's about thirty miles from where Cheryl and I stay so Cassie and I got an easy drive. A little town called Cedar Hollow sits on the lee side of Crawley's Ridge, it being tornado country there ain't much on the other side. Population 312 according to the sign but it looks pretty old. The population might be more because of people coming out here - that's the case with some places. I suspect it is because if Gordon is using it he's got some people in there among the population. Manpower is one thing he doesn't have a problem, for reasons not known to many but it has to do with having access to very large amounts of money. So he's using this place even occasionally he's got a few hardmen in there to back up his intel folks. Sometimes guys that are good with electronics of various kinds aren't exactly special forces types. I know to turn into a gap in a fence grown up with weeds and vines this time of year. It's almost exactly a quarter mile from the highway and since it's the only one for a couple hundred yards it's easy to hit. Another couple hundred yards and I'm at the compound gate. I stop and wait while a couple of guys in camo BDUs emerge from the brush and open it - they look me over good as I go through. Not taking any chances. An bunch of old farm buildings and grain bins that don't look much different outside than they did ten years ago are quite a bit different inside. I park at a half-circle of six bins with a stair leading to a walkway that accesses all six. It's the only way in except for the secret one - it's on the ground hidden in vegetation. I've been in here a couple of times and Gordon has put a good bit of work into it. I park Cassie and dismount. Two guys in plain khaki nod casually as I head up the stairs. Damn things are thirty-something feet high - not high as some of these things go - and the walkway is three floors up. And I'm going to the fifth one - not the first, not the last, the fifth. Gordon is paranoid about three times as much as he needs to be but I'm used to it. The inside of the old grain bin - about thirty feet across - is pretty luxurious for a field office. Hardwood floor and wood paneled walls, windows all the way around. At the top of the stairs I'm greeted by a beautiful young woman. No surprise there, Gordon always has one or two of those. This one is wearing the unadorned knakis I see a lot, a cool beauty probably in the mid thirties. Five seven or so, willowy build, shoulder length black hair. Old school 1911 in a cross-draw holster. Gordon's people are different some say. I'm not as old as Gordon but old enough to know things some don't. "This way," she says and I follow here across the big round room to a partition set about ten feet or so from the wall. It's about twenty feet long and we walk around one end. Gordon is sitting facing the window, feet up on the ledge that runs around the room, chewing on a cigar. He's probably ten years older than me, somewhere in there. Retired Air Force colonel - never one to play the game to get a star. He only retired a couple of years before the big blowup, had already moved up here and was in with a group preppers which is how I first met him. He turns around and puts his feet up on the desk and doesn't say anything. Neither do I. "Might as well sit down," he says after a bit. I sit down. "One to ten," he says, "how are you?" I'd be lying if said a hundred percent or even ninety, but what if I said I feel like shit? "Three-quarters full I reckon," I say. Gordon gets up and walks over to a little bar, pours a couple of glasses half full of Wild Turkey. Rare Breed. He doesn't do it to impress me - he doesn't need to impress anyone. But he wouldn't do it for just anyone - even though he has a serious stash of liquor laid in before. Tobacco too, and other stuff. You know some things will be expensive when the supply gets throttled. Hands me a glass and a pack of Backwoods cigars. I take one and light it, he lights his. We sip whiskey and smoke. "If you're not a hundred percent," he says after a while, "it's not that important. What I need is security and I've got the warm bodies - I need you to make sure they get the job done. As in absolutely positively no leaks. You'll have a force of a dozen men, already vetted by Darkstar. You approve them before they're accepted." "That's it?" I ask. Gordon grins, something he rarely does. Blows some smoke. "What do you think?" "You don't call me unless it's bad. Or about to get that way. Or already did." "It could," he says. "And that's why I need you. Do you know who Peter Reynolds is?" "Not a clue." "The Black Monday affair? The most recent one anyway. Pete Reynolds was one of the most wanted after that. Probably the most wanted.
