Rapture is from
Autoamerican,
the last Blondie album I bought. Maybe I should checked out the next one but it was
a transitional time for me and I got busy with some other stuff. Anyway they broke up after that so there wasn't
anything until they reformed in 1999 or so. They were classified as punk and new wave but weren't as bad-attitude as
a lot of punk was. It seemed to be transitional for Blondie soundwise as ABBA with the changes with Voulez-Vous and
the two final ones before their forty-year hiatus.
Debbie was a beautiful woman and great singer - before Auto-Tune and million-dollar production for those set up to
be the next big thing and you didn't really have to be able to sing. I heard some interviews back in the day and she
seemed pretty normal and laid-back. Rapture was one of a couple of hits on Autoamerican and the one I like best. It's
said to be one of the earliest examples of rap. I suppose if you don't count narrative country songs inspired by the Norse
deity Eric the
Red Sovine
or
C.W. McCall
later on.
Blondie would have a pretty huge hit in 1980 with Call Me done for the American Gigolo soundtrack. Yeah, I saw
it, once. I was in the Air Force then in the UK and entertainment on base was kinda basic. They always had the latest
movies though so between going downtown and fooling around or bowling or watching a movie we generally watched the movies.
Saw the premiere of The Empire Strikes Back in a fancy theater in London. Plush reclining seats and all. Somewhere I've
got a pic of the marquee with big X-wings and stuff in neon lights.
Many pop bands did the obligatory disco number or two as ABBA did on Voulez-Vouz but disco burned out by the 1980s.
Unfortunately for civilization the psycho-warfare weapon known as rap has persisted. Blondies's contribution is charming
and funny which is more than you can say for the product that followed.
On to business. I observe that the Jonestown paper puts pretty mediocre material in the editorial section but there is at
least some variety of opinion. KAIT puts up
Dissociated Press
articles which are rival NPR in propagandist aspirations.
KAIT had a two-minute clip and the text of the article. Where the vid came from I have no idea - generic bimbo this one with long dark hair.
Bubbleheads - bleached or natural - aren't all blonde. And they can be male or female. It had the usual garbage including the obligatory
Jan 6 reference:
Trump again makes false claims on Jan. 6
Donald Trump falsely claimed during the press conference that 'nobody was killed on Jan. 6,' the date in 2021 when pro-Trump rioters breached the U.S. Capitol amid
Congress' effort to certify Biden's 2020 election victory after Trump refused to concede.
Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old Air Force veteran from San Diego was shot and killed by a police officer as she climbed through a broken part of a Capitol door during the
violent riot that breached the building. (Associated Press)
No you stupid bimbo. Two women were brutally murdered by Capitol Police.
Rosanne Boyland
was beaten to death while lying nearly unconscious on the ground. Trump was referring to the false reports of two - possibly more by now - Capitol Police being killed.
Those were the false claims cupcake. BYKT.
OK, that wasn't about Northeast Arkansas except to the degree that NEA is located in the US. When that ship goes down we're gonna have to be able to swim because

Beyond sending a message to the governor requesting she appoint a special prosecutor to investigate
this
there isn't much I can do. I know several people who have done the same.
A daylight hit on an upstanding citizen is different from an old mentally ill Joe Nobody in Utah. I'd like to know why - was it to hit a high-profile target, someone with
social status and money - to show that on one is safe? And where are the lectern-gate folks? Killing people is more serious than an alleged and disproven misuse of money.
If I have time I'll grab some commentary from Arrakus.
The
Dissociated Press feature
today is the - what do they call those things? Ya know, felon shot by police while committing a crime and doesn't survive the experience and the usual suspects arrive to do their thing.
This didn't develop into the
Summer of Love
that came later but practice makes perfect.
Weekend about to get going - let me check Left Memphis real quick... looks like nothing. Later.

More
fun and games
with the Jonestown police. Seems the
FBI is now gonna take a look.
Dunno why, the victim wasn't special IYKWIM. You had to figure the cop would get fired though, video and all and it was pretty clearly inappropriate behavior.
And the cop was in
another affair
that made some people unhappy. And there's an election coming up. That'll do it, get some serious law-and-order posturing for a few more months. And the FBI will
have something better to do than arresting people for peacefully protesting without a BLM card.
What the cop shoulda done if he didn't want to get in so much trouble was drive his patrol car (while off duty and not responding to a call) through the narrow
congested streets of Jonestown while on the phone and
nail a citizen
who wasn't even a perp of any kind, just someone in the wrong place at the wrong time. That dude had been a few scrapes before he left that poor woman permanently crippled.
The mayor... well someone anyway...
City of Jonesboro Communications Director Donna Malone released a statement from Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver. "I've watched the video and I'm appalled because the officer's
actions in that video are inexcusable. I'm upset and disappointed because we expect more from our officers. I fully support Chief Elliot's prompt action to terminate the officer.
This kind of behavior will not be tolerated and merits investigation." (KAIT)
Allow me to translate: I've got an election coming up and I don't need this. I expect you guys to tone it down until it's over. The Chief knows which side of his toast
has the hydrogenated vegetable oil and Yellow #6 smeared on it. Get the FBI involved and you'll look really good.
OK, enough of that.

Apparently
this
means bidding for construction of the proposed garish monstrosity that will replace the tornado-damaged Wynne High School is closed. Says two to three years
to get it done. Something that looks like that I can wait another ten years. Most people I know that have kids homeschool them but if I had to consign my offspring
to the government school I'd prefer to have them in metal buildings that cost about half as much to build and can be up in a year. Probably more durable too -
I converted a thirty-something year old pole barn into a house and the repair cost to the original structure was negligible - not much if any over two thousand
on a sixty-plus project. Energy cost is pretty much negligible as well.
But we're told by those who assure us they know (have the
BS piled higher and deeper) that children learn better in whatever they tell us
is an environment conducive to learning. Uh, they aren't learning much now in your overpriced schools, in the environment someone decided would be conducive to
learning. I seem to remember
commentating
on that a while back. I shall say no more.
Another crop duster crash which happily the pilot survived. Less happy was the ambulance collision, sadly a motorist and paramedic perished. I suppose
the modern ambulance is more practical than the old cargo vans and hearses (remember those?) but you have to be more careful. My one ride in an ambulance -
well actually it was two in one and two another day but I was only cognizant of one) was recent and one of the truck types. Another Enak story here - some years
back when the switch from vans to trucks was going on an ambulance company where I lived had one or two of them. The ambulance company was owned by a funeral home,
something I found a tad unnerving. It made economic sense for the operator - someone doesn't make it they're gonna be a customer of a funeral home and you got a shot.
There's another story there let me get this one first - I'm not getting any younger and neither is my memory.
Lemme set this up for ya - two highways about ten or miles from town, not far from the middle of nowhere. Intersection the usual 90-degree where north-south
crosses east-west or whichever it is. Way back when I was a kid and the roads were gravel a local farmer was on one road and some other guy was on the other
and they arrived at the intersection at the same time. I don't remember there was a stop sign on either road on those days (there is now) but anyway collided.
The some other guy perished and the farmer was busted up good but lived and recovered.
OK, so it's 1980-something probably and both roads are paved and there's a stop sign at the intersection. Two vehicles collide in a manner similar to the event I just
described. Bad but nobody dead. One is banged up pretty good - broken back as was determined later - and the funeral home ambulance is dispatched. Subject loaded up
and head back to town.
Not that road runs straight as a ruler for miles but about a mile or so before it connects with the highway into town and the emergency room it does a rather nasty
turn. An S-turn you could call it only it's like you took the ends of the S and pulled on them. It's also somewhere near off-camber and heading slightly downhill
while turning right. Get all that. Forty years later I still tiptoe through there. Ambulance driver didn't and that big Chevy truck with that big box on the back
went base over apex into the field beyond.
If you jokers don't settle down I'll tell the other story. In fact I've got a couple about that crook in the road. All right? OK, gotta go do some of the work I
get paid for - later.

I noticed KAIT had a bit on the X data center that's expected in Memphis, get to that later. Some stuff on the cop that beat up the guy, more fun on
Race Street
in Jonestown. They need to do something about that area. Wasn't there a killing over there lately? I remember a shooting or two. Seeya in a while.

And you don't stop
Sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and lands on the ground
And out comes a man from Mars
And you try to run but he's got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
Then you're in the man from Mars
You go out at night eating cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercurys and Subarus

"Lashes out at Harris" ® The state-run media presumes the audience is as dumb as
they are. I listened to the entire thing - Trump taking questions like an actual press
conference - calling on reporters and responding to whatever the question was. No
list of names to call on already knowing what the question would be and what he was
supposed. He was relaxed and affable, not one scream or incoherent garbled
anything.
When I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you.

That is pretty ridiculous. Television and newspapers are dying and the owners have
no idea how to keep them alive even a little longer. I looked at about a couple dozen
Gray station websites (they have over 100) and found several with the AP article
KAIT has. Some have no national news. Maybe the local management gets to pick the
material?
For every action there is a reaction, for every good an evil, for every strength a
weakness, and for every injustice there is somewhere a final justice.

Jonesboro is run by loony liberals so maybe they're catering to their belief of what
the audience is. How many people actually watch TV, even the videos they put on the
website? I suspect in small markets they're relying on the continued revenue from
local car dealers, business that robotically run ads because that's what they've
always done.

The general population of what they call 'Region 8' is decidedly not lefty loons so
probably not a big audience. I don't know what entertainment programming is these
days or anyone who watches it. Everybody is streaming movies and binge-watching
the cable shows.

You're kidding, right. Look, these people are such strangers to the truth they - OK
some of them - actually believe the fake news they're disseminating. Not all of them
though, some of them are pure evil.

That was the one where the kid stole cigars from a store, assaulted the clerk, ended
up ina fight with a cop and got shot. I seem to remember he was a great big kid.

Pretty much, here's a link. That was when they had the "hands up don't shoot" thing
and we all made fun of it saying "pants up don't loot" because... well because it was
what it was. Someone called them race-hustlers as I recall.

Looking at Ferguson today, is it better off than it was ten years ago? What happened
there was unfortunate but solely the fault of one miscreant, as was the Floyd affair.
Many innocents suffered as a result. I would say I don't know what the answer is but
Ido - saying it will only cause people to call you bad things and if you're an elected
official not vote for you. So no one in positions to actually effect change don't say it.

Ferguson had been in decline for a while. Somewhere around that time the tipping
point was reached. Look at it now. That's mostly the result of white flight.

Nice of the mayor to notice. Who has been running the city for the past almost four
years? This isn't the first or even second or third major incident. I wonder how many
aren't making the news.

Anyone remember him being appalled at the Tyner case or the Haley (Johnson) Boyd
case? The city is fighting tooth and nail to keep from paying up. That is beyond
disgusting.

Election coming up. Had to do something. Maybe he should have done something a
couple of years ago. The chief has been chief for ten years or so. Did they have these
kinds of problems ten years ago?
What difference, at this point, does it make?

They weren't quite as bad but Jonesboro has always kept most of it under the rug.
Changing times caught up with them. Out-of-towners, miscreants are more mobile
now. Jonesboro will soon be a little Memphis. Too bad, it was a nice town, shame this
is happening to it.

The mayor may be worried. That city council guy could knock him off. The other two
guys are some fellow who doesn't look to do anything and the guy they tried to keep
out with the alleged hot check thing. I thought he was out but he's on the ballot. Any
outsider would be good.

Unfortunately if an outsider did win the entire city council would be against him and
do everything they could to prevent him from being elected again. Like that Trump
