Dunno what the source of that video is (besides youtube) as there don't seem to be any official video releases. They released a live album of the 1982 Zurich show and this is a pretty high quality vid so it may be something they did while taping the show. DVDs weren't a thing in 1982 and with VHS being the only practical distribution media a lot of stuff from that era sat in the vaults for a long time. Ritchie Blackmore taped a lot of Rainbow shows going back to the early days and a lot of that stuff is out there now. I talked about him last week, didn't I?

Shut up, Chris?

The name is because almost all the original members were of Native American ancestry. Reportedly Rick's grandfather is one of the inspirations for Skynyrd's The Ballad of Curtis Lowe. Rick was with Skynyrd for a while before he formed Blackfoot. They give Highway Song what I call the Free Bird treatment here and lay it down for about nine minutes which is a couple or three minutes longer than the studio recording.

Rick went back with Skynyrd some years ago and Blackfoot is still around with none of the original members but still pretty good. They went through about three to four dozen members - notably the late great Ken Hensley of Uriah Heep and Mark Mendoza of Twisted Sister once dropped in for a while. I liked the original guitar pair in Sister a lot. I'd tell you about the first time I saw them but the setup would probably take a bit and I may have already done so.

What, Chris?

Thought so. Anyhow that's the culture piece for this installment unless something else in the library catches my eye this week. What we talkin' about?

Probably be a while before the fun starts over in Memphis over the schools. Maybe they can finesse it but Memphis ain't got much to work with. An immigration lawyer in Memphis commented on the illegals roundup.

He said he believes that since the inauguration, about 250 to 500 people in the greater Memphis area have been taken into custody. "Given that the administration is a week old, that's pretty high," Rankin said.

WREG
Since there's been zero enforcement for four years it probably does look high. What part of you're not getting away with it any more do you not understand?
"So, people coming in unlawfully, that deals with the border -- coming in lawfully, he's cutting off pathways and then trying to go after individuals who are in the interior," Rankin said. Now, he's seeing firsthand how fearful his clients are.

WREG
A lot of American citizens - people who live here and have a right to live here - are fearful of being raped and robbed and the fact that most are women and children makes it a little difficult to care about the people that instill that fear. KWIM?
"And then they're arresting them at the check-in for specific reasons," Rankin said. "One of them is because they're under a final order or deportation as it's more commonly known and another is they do not have enough presence in the country, usually under two years."

WREG
They have a final order of deportation? And they're still here? Not for long. It seems the Trump administration layin' on the shock and awe. One benefit to that and continuing to keep the pressure on will increase the rate of self-deportation. Well, President Trump told them what he was gonna do.
WREG reached out to ICE for a comment and is still waiting to hear back.

WREG
Somehow I don't expect ICE cares what a TV station in Memphis thinks. ICE don't care what TV people in New York and Chicago and whatever part of Los Angeles is unburned think about anything.

You can't see much of it but the background image is Tom Berenger looking seriously badass in The Dogs of War from around 1980. It's the pic of him using the Manville during the assault on President-for-Life Kimba's compound. As you may suspect Kimba's presidency and life were both nearing their end by that time. The Manville was described in the film as the latest and greatest in killing technology (at close up and personal anyway) but was actually a relic from the 1930s and us most of us gun nuts knew that but it looked cool. Sadly merc Drew Blakely (Berenger) is the one who buys the farm but goes home with the rest because that's the way these guys roll. Christopher Walken (Shannon) is the ultimate badass but honorable (he kills the wannabe dictator instead of allowing him to assume power as planned by his crooked employers) and jokes as they set out for the big one "gotta be alive to get paid".

No major disappointments as a merc movie. The Wild Geese from a couple of years earlier was probably more plausible but that not the fault of the material - Frederick Forsyth's book is well researched and plotted (it was described by some as a manual for mercenaries) but to follow the book the film would probably have to be twice as long. As an action/adventure flick it works well. Seen it a few times and probably will again sometime.

OK, that should do it for culture. What happening in news? Checking in with KJNB where they rotate stuff pretty quick. Hmmm.... of course they did. 50 million for condoms for people living in Middle East slums means what anyone with a brain thinks it means - money laundering. And anything 'aid experts' say is mostly ignorance at best and lying most likely. Why President Trump froze the gimme department.

And little jewels like this are kinda hard to spin. What the future of the alphabet media will be doesn't look bright for those that make a living there. A few years ago I would have thought that if the news business went south they could make it on entertainment but that audience is gone already. One might say it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch so I'll go ahead and do say it.

Not being able to - or wanting to - get inside people's heads I gotta say that stuff like this is stupid. You victimize one person you might get away with it, maybe two or three if you got some kinda leverage, but the bigger it gets and the more people there are the more can put you away. Seventy-something guy goin' away for what is probably all the time he got left I don't have any sympthy for - whether he a special kind of stupid or been doing bad things for a long time or both. Known a couple of those types, going into the pen in their late sixties and seventies. Knew one pretty well got out a couple of years ago and one my age that probably be in for another few years. Lived their whole life and got nothing when they could have lifed an honest and honorable life and maybe acquired some property and money and be comfortable if nothing else.

It looks like this and this will be addressed in the new legislative session and not a wild guess is that both will pass. Even more certain is the howls and shrieks will be loud for a while. If RFKjr is confirmed to his Cabinet appointment his MAHA programs should be underway by then. People want to eat junk food and get sick and fat I have no objection to them killing themselves but I object to being forced to pay for it. I pay for the food stamps for them to get fat and sick and then I pay for their medical care when they get sick.

I'll skip the people shooting at this and that and the other and move on to the Jonestown paper. Had a cartoon that some (me included) figured was somewhere south of the bottom of the barrel. El Rushbo used to say that when he was publicly speaking and waving and stuff, knowing there was film rolling (or electrons flowing) if he waved he always bent his arm pretty good so nobody could say he was making a Nazi salute thing. Not that wouldn't anyway but Elon isn't experienced in public image management. So he make some kinda motion with his arm, kinda like President Trump puttin' his arm up after the bullet went through his ear, and sure enough they say he done a Nazi salute.

One of the best descriptions. I may or not have related that in England TV news readers are referred to as exactly that - news readers. Having a degree in journalism doesn't make one a journalist - it makes one a person with a degree in journalism. Josef Mengele was an MD - would you want him doctoring on you? One of the things I won't miss is the news shows - an anchor and a reporter and maybe the weather guy or gal - I mean meteorologist - sitting at the table and the reporter reads something and then the anchor asks her something and they chat a bit like they know what they talking about. Time was that act worked on a lot of people, especially from my generation and before. Surely those people must know what they're doing, they got jobs at a teevee station and dressed all nice and hairdos and makeup and stuff, they must know what they talkin' about. And for sure they wouldn't just out and out lie.

Dunno where just readin' something because you paid to read it when you have no idea it's right is lyin' or something else. Ain't nice though. I reckon a lot of them believed what they was reading during the Plandemic when they said this many and so many died from Covid today and how many thousands had died so far. Lies but are those who repeat the lies in ignorance guilty of something? Besides ignorance anyways?

Okey-dokey, what we got for the last day of January? The city of Jonestown put up a website where you can follow the progress of the removal of the old Citizens Bank. Had an embezzlement in amongst the usual crimes. Nothing like a little variety. Dealt with a matter like that back in the banking days, couple actually.

Probably didn't mention that the governor wants to have a law that kids don't play with their phones all the time they at school. Good idea but a shame that you hafta have a law to make people behave sensibly.

Jonestown paper had a less funny than usual cartoon yesterday. Less coherent too if that's possible. Don't usually check the Paragould paper - think I'll take a look at it.

The Comancheros (1961) is one of the more fanciful John Wayne films - a little at the edges of plausibility what with the hidden valley - kinda lost world with the utopian (according to the boss) society. Stuart Whitman is the sidekick this time around. He did a lot of films and TV too and I've seen quite a few but sometimes don't remember it was him until I see it again. Jack Elam is present, as are Patrick Wayne and a granddaughter of the Duke. Lee Marvin puts on one of his more memorable performances, bordering on clownish. Not like in Shout at the Devil as that was played for comic effect but an unpredictable and violent drunk. It's a short performance as Captain Jake has to shoot him in self-defense early on. I don't know much about the hidden valley despot in the wheelchair - he makes me think of Ray Milland. A fun way to spend a couple hours if you ain't see it, or if you have.

I saw this on the Memphis telly site before it showed up in NEA news, thought at first it was in Memphis but it in Left Memphis. Seems three juvies was burglarizing a domicile and an occupant of said domicile shot at one or more of them and hit at least one. Had 11, 14, and 16-year-olds and the 14-year was dead. Sez 'later pronounced dead' so whether the pronouncement was made at the scene or after transportation to a hospital is not specified. Not a lot of detail in these things. Seems the non-dead ones may be charged with murder on account of they were responsible for the death.

Maybe if they didn't constantly lie. The same people who told most of the lies that got the Planemic up and kept it going for as long as it did shouldn't be able to manipulate the price of chickens and eggs by having millions of birds slaughtered anytime they feel like it. Whether home-grown chickens are the primary target Idunno - people giving away eggs and them as sell them get two to three dollars a dozen while they six bucks plus in the stores.

Over in DeSoto County Mississippi the jail had eight inmates taken off it's hands because they illegal and ICE is sending them somewhere. Where don't matter long as it's somewhere other than here. Wonder of Craighead County has any illegals they'd like to be rid of prermanently. Not have to feed'em and watch'em, save a lot of money.

About all of the preeminent AI chatbots cheerfully refute Darwinism and the Big Bang. Until the appropriate modifications are made. Dunno why that is - an AI machine ain't nothing but computer software with the ability to process just about all the information that exists or has thus far been accumulated for it to use and then analyze it and use it to answer questions you ask it. When it gives the wrong answers its creators fix it so it doesn't. Note that wrong doesn't mean incorrect of inaccurate - it means what it ain't supposed to say.

That's about disappeared from everywhere but yeah, she said it. I watched the video, in that Valley Girl voice like the ones that read commercials or the weather and traffic. The weather and traffic readers are probably smarter but that is as the feller said to damn with faint praise. Maybe NPR and the propagandists will lose their taxpayer subsidies this time around. The point is AI has non-atrtificial people telling it what to say. Some have said that artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity and artificial intelligence not only will not eliminate deceit but is itself a tool of the deceivers.

Black History Month is underway and there an extra day this year. The proud people month ain't until June but June is thirty days and if that isn't unfair enough there's a bunch of other days that ain't in June. None in February though - wonder if they feel bad about infringing on special folks that already got a short month. Looks like they got four whole months, a week, and six days. Wickedpedia should mark that page as one that is likely to change often as new unholy celebrations are added.

I believe that such a situation might have occurred before long had President Trump not prevailed. Exactly what from no one can day - MacArthur's Freehold depicts an invisible but very powerful resistance force capable of - if not outright defeating a regime gone completely off the rails at least able to stop it in its tracks and allow a chance to reverse course. Something like A.E. Van Vogt's Weapons Makers - not interested in ruling but in preserving indiviual liberty. A more likely result the former regime remaining in power would be a breakdown of everything and the infrastructure destruction would happen organically rather than as a result of partisan resistance but both might occur. We were pretty close to the edge. The theory that no government, however bad, exists without at least the tacit consent of the governed seems valid enough but the quality of the populace and its ability to resist has a bit to do with it. I should think that if the population of the U.K. were as well-armed as that of the U.S.A. much blood would have flowed before now. As it is the Brits are sheep docilely filing into the slaughterhouse with no more than feeble bleats.

Crime about average so far but reporting always runs behind. When a body is found lying about somewhere it usually takes a while to get any more info beyond that it was found. I know, gotta send it off to the crime lab and may not be readily apparent how or why it died. Wasn't a JPD cop but one's wife that was in this one. Okey-dokey.

KAIT had this contribution from the Dissociated Press feed. The president made the usual proclamation so what's the problem? You mean because the DOD will no longer be blowing taxpayer money on cultural awareness or whatever it is this year. Wanna celebrate your Eskimo ancestry.... hang on, where does that go? Indidenous peoples or Asian? Both? Whatever, do it on your own time. I don't feel a need to celebrate my Cherokee ancestry - both sides of the family tree - or my Irish ancestry...

What, Chris?

Yeah, technically there is an Irish month but do you hear about it all month long? Even know which month it is? Most people probably don't and it sure ain't in the news every day. That should really piss me off but I got better things to do than worry about it. An Afram fellow I know (that's not an insult - if you're gonna have special words try to keep'em short) and respect greatly says if there ain't now White History Month why should there be a Black History Month?

Interestingly institutions can create giants - pseudo-giants anyway and in fact our world is controlled mostly by these pseudo-giants. The infamous Anthony Fauci is a product of the medical-industrial complex - an avaricious midwit who wormed his way up the ladder by being a tool. Self-made men, true giants like Elon Musk and Donald Trump, were targeted by the hordes of dwarfs and have temporarily defeated them. The regime boldly proclaimed its intent to seize the assets of both (they had already tied up most of Trump's assets through lawfare) and intended to put both prison. No doubt the folks at NASA with astronauts stranded due to their own incompetence were salivating at the prospect of seizing Elon's successful project and making it their own. That it would shortly have been in the same sorry state as NASA didn't seem to bother them. The dwarves see the giant's treasure horde and want it and figure it's easier to take what the giant has than dig their own.

Massive peaceful protest against the trash removal. Just kidding, couple hundred. The fact is - not that facts matter to these people - is that the only people removed thus far and likely to be removed in the foreseeable future are those guilty of violent crimes. Ya'know, rape robbery and murder . Lots of rapes and murders, children among the victims. The main thing is that the invasion is largely stopped at the borders and the process of removing the worst us underway. A certain amount of self-deportation will further reduce the population.

Jonestown paper had the usual assortment - toons about the same. Whatever.

In for a penny in for a pound for some. Maybe some folks don't have any self-control. Believe I mentionned the found body in Jonestown has a name. Still dead though. No peaceful protests lately for anything. About the only thing new involving people getting dead is the guy from Atlanta what kilt a guy around Ozark (the town over in the west side of the state) sometime around 4 January. They ain't a lot of info in these things but seems when they caught him he in Grand Rapids Michigan on 31 January. People do get around. Didn't say who dead guy was or where he come from. There a town in Misery called Ozark, pretty good size about like Left Memphis. Knew the bank president slightly - the bank was a customer of a company I worked for back in the day - what got sent to prison briefly for supposedly murderin' his wife. Turned out he was embezzling and so was convicted of the murder because. The conviction was overturned and from the looks of it he probably didn't do it - he didn't seem the type. Theft I had no problem believing but killing people something else and it was kinda sloppy case.

Since there no crime to speak of so far - weekend stuff may not show until mid-week - KAIT got the horrible tariff news. Only problem there ain't any because the Mexicans and Canadians blinked. You were execting something different? I know, people in news business gotta write some news and anything will do for their customers. There was a Paragound school teacher got nailed for DWI and stuff on account of he was apparently in a wreck while DWI. What was it I was sayin' about people having no self-control? I could look it up but here in a minute or three Chris will probably tell me.

Somedody had a BHM article up but not interested. What is it, twenty-six days to go? Another thing about illegals worried about being sent home. Whatever. People worried about Elon taking over the government. More likt they worried about losing control - the USAID thing is big. All the color revolutions and other regime changes that won't happen now - the horor.

May have missed this shooting or maybe they didn't report it until an alleged perp was in custody. Need a scorecard to see what's what with stuff. Dunno from Daybreak Drive, look like up north. Jonestown a big place these days. Anyhow all they got is a guy dead and a guy they seem to think done it. Decedent is described as being from Gilmore. Only Gilmore I know anything about is the speed trap on I-555. Dunno if it still a speed trap or not - seems them operations over there and Tyronza and all pretty much defunct. I still slow down good before I get there because I don'w wanna gave law enforcement interactions.

What, Chris?

I got one speeding ticket when I was about eighteen or so, decided I wouldn't exceed the speed limit any more. Still got a couple of tickets so observing the law is no guarantee you won't be accused of it. Just pay the toll and move on. Cops wonder why so many normal people don't like them.

Another Paragould teacher in some trouble. I don't drive drunk but if I's gonna I hope I wouldn't compound the problem by having illegal drugs on me. Guess some people got problms with self-control or something.

FBI goons that rounded up all the J6 political prisoners don't want it known. Got a feeling it'll come out one way or another - they may get a court to order the information concealed but President Trump don't exactly have to do as they say. What are they gonna do? Anyway it'll leak if it doesn't get out officially.

Actually they shouldn't and I doubt they will. That looked like why can't we all get all along after we tried every dirty trick in the book and made up some new ones. And tried to kill President Trump. Sure, I can get along with people like that if they in prison. The perfesser guy is as clueless as ever. My only problem with assigning a proper name to the Gulf is that it should be the Gulf of North America.

Had the situation not been so serious, Anthony would have enjoyed their discomfiture. There was no solution - the country would soon be in complete chaos if something were not done. And ten times the army they had couldn't deal with it, assuming half the army did not desert and join the rebels. "Do you have any suggestions?" he asked. "Why can't state and local law enforcement help to contain it?" asked Jordan. "We should have federalized all law enforcement long ago. Can they do nothing?" "Next to nothing," Anthony replied.
