Decided to play some Joe Lynn Turner live sets today. Outside what is for now my office so I can crank up and if I want to go out and enjoy a piece close up here and there. Probably need to get on Amazon and get a new 2.1 amp and add a subwoofer. Joe has a lot of material to choose from for his shows what with his tenure with Rainbow and Yngwie Malmsteen and a bunch of other stuff. He was probably the best singer Yngwie had but the outfit broke up and Joe went briefly to Deep Purple. His one album with them was excellent but it wasn't to continue. Ritchie was apparently overruled by whoever wanted Gillan back and so he only stuck around for one more album.

First up was a show in Bulgaria in 2016. It's mostly Rainbow and some Purple stuff, opening with Death Alley Driver. Purple numbers are favorites - Perfect Strangers and Stormbringer and later on Highway Star, Burn and of course Smoke on the Water. The keyboard player sounds fairly Jon Lordish on those.

Naturally we get Stone Cold and Street of Dreams with a children's choir on the latter. If he never did anything else those two would make him memorable. His duet with Candice Night on The Village Lanterne is even better than the origial - like it wouldn't be. He closes with Rising Force from Yngwie's Odyssey album.

Joe is as charismatic as his predecessor in Rainbow - actually Graham Bonnet was in there between him and Dio but not for long. He seems to be doing it as much for fun and the fans as for money. Not that most of these guys are doing it for money - when you've been at it that long if you're not financially comfortable you've probably looked for an easier way to be broke.

No crimes being reported but dunno if the reporters work weekends. Monday soon enough to call the police departments and see if they arrested anybody. Sadly KAIT has a couple of traffic deaths. Always hate reading those - somehow worse than crime where bad people did it on purpose and while there are sometimes innocent victims traffic mishaps are often the result of someone or other doing something that most of the time wouldn't have deleterious consequences but this time it does. Not paying attention for a few seconds or being in a hurry but do it at the wrong place and time and something bad happens. When children are involved it's even worse - been close to a couple of those. When you're driving with kids in the car you should be even more careful than you should be all the time. And if you're alone consider that other cars may have children in them.

With no news yet lemme check on MyndCryme (one of these days I'll put a link to the site) where the subject of the Jonestown paper came up. I believe the main post was about newspapers in general but one of their editorial cartoons went a bit off the road...

The dialogue in Clint Eastwood films is probably what most folks remember. Whoever wrote that stuff had a pretty good line on how most normal people think. Dunno who wrote all that stuff - one of the writers on The Gauntlet has a dozen so films listed in Wickedpedia and this and Pale Rider are the only Eastwood films. Anyway it was the stuff you remember, the make my day and do you feel lucky? stuff but there was always a lot of it. The Gauntlet is a favorite for any number of reasons. Over the top? Sure, and so was Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man which I've watched about as many times. Is Clint cooler than usual here? How do you scale that with the Dirty Harry flicks and the westerns - sphaghetti and other - and his other cop films and all? Performance-wise pretty good - this was just after he did the Dirty Harry stuff up through The Enforcer and there was nothin' badassier or cooler. Here he's an alcoholic cop puttin' in his time to retirement and a nobody that gets selected as a sacrifice in a setup to cover some corrupt politicians who need for a witness to stop breathing before she puts some of them away. Does the loser that gets mad enough to stand up and fight pretty good.

Either you've seen it and I don't need to tell you about it or you don't care so I'll share my experience. Saw it in the theatre when it was released. It was at Vandenberg AFB at the base theater. Two bucks or something like that. Buddy I had been with back in the UK had ended up in the same place - he asked for it on account of he had family up near Bakersfield (the only place I actually got shot at) and we palled around together. The poster caught my eye and while I didn't immediately peg it as a Frazetta work it was ingriguing. Besides it was a Clint Eastwood flick.

As I said Clint's character ain't that sympathetic. Washed-up failure, probably a bad attitude about everything. Sondra Locke is a hooker with a college degree in what I don't remember if she ever said but she had the bad jugment or luck or both to know something she shouldn't. Or something she shouldn't tell a a grand jury as far as some political bigwigs was concerned so they want her at room temperature.

A lot of the dialogue in there is bad language but the waitress scene is suitable for all ages. Sondra Locke was a pretty decent actress and her and Clint havin' a thing going did a few more movies together. Didn't care for the comedy stuff but Sudden Impact was real good. Maybe the best Dirty Harry film. In fact I'll go ahead and say it was. They ended up not getting along and it seems to have gotten ugly when they split.

Pat Hingle shows up again - I believe his last appearance with Clint was in Sudden Impact. He's kind of low-key here, Harry's friend that gets whacked by the bad guys. In Sudden Impact he does an bit of ranting like his character in Hang'em High. The scumbag constable that got hosed at the state line was pretty good - seems he also did a few films with Clint.

Okey-dokey, I'm up a little early but lessee if any weekend news has showed up.

Somebody seemed to think this was taxpayer money. Idunno if the folks giving it get any or it's all private, can't find it on their website. I don't go downtown much and don't like driving down Main or most of the other streets down there. It does need to fixed though and the ones that said something shoulda been done about the old bank a long time ago.

One of our state reps talked about budget stuff.

I guess this is gonna be some kind of crime. Dunno why some people can't at least act like they got good sense. Drugs and/or alcohol?

I'll give them the benefit of doubt and guess this just happened to be what popped up in the queue. Who was it said that revenge is for children and the emotionally retarded? Relax people, Gaetz ain't gonna be Attorney General and I doubt if that was ever intended. It was to give the pit yorkies of the regime media something to chew on and feel like they won. Apparently it was one of those Kavanaugh hit jobs and like that one it failed. The RINOs that did it may not suffer any repercussions unless Gaetz does what he said he might but the false witnesses can now be sued in a Florida court and Gaetz doesn't seem the forgiving type. That would be fun to watch.

That the Democrat DOJ didn't attempt to prosecute should tell you now bogus this was. And it wasn't just because they have a pretty lousy batting average in Florida. The RINOs tried to destroy him and failing acted like the children they are. Gaetz is now in a position to do them some serious harm if he chooses. ~ Alex@MyndCryme

Open Your Eyes has been a favorite in Asia's live performances for a long time. It's usually not a closer but kind of a high point in the show and you can't wait for it. Probably there were some other tracks from that album that charted higher. I remember that The Smile Has Left Your Eyes had a video. Strange one but a lot of them was lot back then. That album was as John said pretty good to them. Anyhow I like the live performances they did - kinda gave it the Free Bird treatment with that long ending. You can see Steve at probably in his sixties on the later performances kind of bending the keees and jumping a little in the build-up to the ending.

I liked the imagery it evoked - thinking about a girl from eastern Europe maybe, a model or actress, got over here in probably western Europe and trying to succeed at whatever it is she wanted to do. Like a lot of their songs about emotions and aspirations and such and sometimes things not working out the way you hoped. Believe I may have talked about them before, about John probably. Sadly he lost a battle with cancer at a relatively young age.

Asia got a bad rap from a lot of folks including those in my age bracket. Studio albums were maybe a little too polished for some or maybe they were seen as too commercial but live they were one of the best.

Another bunch of shoppers from Memphis that didn't make it back from Left Memphis. It wasn't immediately clear whether they made it across the bridge since there's an MLK street there as well as Left Memphis but it looks like they nailed them on Broadway in Left Memphis. Apparently stopped then with the old NASCAR trick. Not great writing but they did mention that it was the ASP so they was still in Arkansas. Not a Dodge Charger or even an Infiniti and no word on whether it had a Xeroxed license plate. Good to see Memphis is doing something about it after just a few years.

I was amused for a couple of seconds by the headline - isn't all murder lawless? - but there's a really awful story behind it. Guy spent fourteen years in prison for something he never done. I dunno if the Innocence Project was involved in his case or not, gonna read up on it later. They've helped quite a few people get what was left of their lives back but it's disgraceful that there are so many and I hate to think about how many innocent people are still in prison and may never get out. In one of Al Pacino's early films ...And Justice For All he explains:

One of his more enjoyable rants. I liked the one in Scent of a Woman better and he was pretty good in Scarface but I haven't seen a couple or three.

Idunno if who writes the stuff at KJNB but they got it in their Arkansas news so... well, I reckon President Trump was joined by a few million of the good and decent people of America being disgusted by the actions of the most corrupt president since Slick Willie. Quite a few millions.

Couple of shootings in places we don't hear much about. Hughes is little ole town out there in St. Francis county not far from Greasy Corner. Knew a chick back in the day, sales type and only thing you can likely be sure about anything they tell you is that it probably ain't true. Maybe partly true or even mostly true but I tell mostly true stuff. Anyhow she said she's from Greasy Corner and when she put on that hick act when dealing with sophisticated types to make them cut her some slack she'd tell'em she's from Greasy Corner Arkansas and they figure it's somewhere they have to pipe in the sunlight. Arkansas does have some strange-named places for sure. Goobertown here near Jonesboro, Toad Suck is actually kinda well known outside Arkansas for some reason I forget. Smackover sounds funny but I know the orgin - I'm one of probably not very many people who actually cultivate sumac. Think Possum Grape may be known to the outside world and of course Evening Shade got a TV show named after it.

Anyhow we got a juvie shot in Marianna. Non-dead as far as is known and no word on whether he had good insurance and the taxpayers won't be payin' a big-ass hospital bill. Now I think about it need to check on the killing there a bit back. The one in Hughes is believed to be a deader and involves law enforcement. That usually means one or more LE types shot at something or was shot at or both.

A few drug arrests in Cross County. Don't see a lot of that in the news but dunno if it's ain't because there ain't or they ain't looking for it too hard.

This one is... well what is it when it happens all the time?

On Monday morning, a woman reported her 2012 Infiniti FX35 stolen from her home in Parkway Village. Later that night, officers saw a black Infiniti doing donut burnouts at Norris and Elvis Presley Boulevard. WREG.com
Okey-dokey, you got yer 13-year-old Infiniti, stolen so you'd expect the plates were legit. Nope.
They stopped the vehicle, which had what police say was a fake temporary tag attached to the back. WREG.com
OK, the punk might've tooken off the real tag and put on a Xerox tag but....
Police say the 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody and found to have a key programmer and loaded handgun on him. The car was confirmed to have been stolen and is valued just over $17,500. WREG.com
13-year-old Infiniti worth 17K? Whatever. Like my friend Alex says they can't read or write but they can burn a key fob or install a Glock switch. Or livestream themselves murderin' various and sundry peoples.

That was Memphis btw but we got so much Memphis over here in NEA might as well see what's coming.

One on the left is my copy. One on the right is from an ad for the e-book. Printing them all on paper probly wouldn't work - the original work is something over a thousand pages and while the sequels are shorter they each run several hundred pages. Gary wrote a handful of epic histfic (I thought I just made that up but googled it and somebody else already did) pieces - Aztec was the first one I read and naturally when The Journeyer and Raptor came along I got them too. Aztec is the only one with sequels. Spangle which I didn't finish as I got distracted by other stuff for a few years and haven't gotten back to is in three volumes that are all real big.

First time through you might get the idea that he figures the European colonists (Spanish in this case) are a pretty rotten bunch but Dark Cloud blithely recounts massive atrocities by his own folks with no apparent disapproval. Not that there weren't awful things done but in the big picture....

What, Chris?

Right, keep it short. In the sequels it's made more clear there's good and bad and inbetween and indifferent peoples of all kinds and colors and races and whatnot. There's people still don't get that and they let bad experiences with a few blind them to all else. They're the ones cause a lot of the trouble.

I only kinda took the day off - had lunch with some family I don't see but only occasionally and dinner with some more of them and got all my holiday socializing done except for New Year's. Pretty standard for a long time now and get that done in one shot and then relax a bit.

Had to be away a bit today but fortunately not in Jonestown. Nice day and after dark when I got in - not late this time of year - and should be good for a midnight smoke out on the deck. OK, what happened?

Most of the little NEA 'news' sites are reporting the shooting at Hughes. OK, it a fatal shootin' so it gets more coverage I reckon. Even the Wynne Progress has it but Hughes is down there in Bogan County it's pretty close....

What, Chris?

You gotta admit St. Francis is about like that place in White Lightning , only the sheriff didn't get drownded in a lake but died in prison while atoning for at least one or two of his crimes. Working on it anyway. I figger he paid up for a handful of the smaller ones. And why'd you think I was talkin' about Bogan County and not Bogen County? Ain't seen the movie but looks like I should - seems it might be something like Jackson County Jail. Tommy Lee Jones and Yvette Mimieux with the latter alone being reason enough to watch it at least once.

Hey look, I googled Jackson County Jail and instead of the movie it got Jackson County jails in various places and got a big one - there's a Jackson County in almost half the states. Whodathunkit? Probably a lot named after Andy. Wickedpedia tells me that twenty-one of them are but no word on if any have been wokely remamed. Reckon changing the name of a whole county somewheres is a bit involved. Anyhow sometimes I peruse the jail rosters looking for weird names but the first one I looked at was for Jackson County Indiana and it had quite a few but only found about three. Now what was I talkin' about?

Back to the subject at hand, somebody shot-and-killed at Hughes. Shot-and-killed by a police officer it seems. Sparse as they are the stories vary some as to whether the decedent shot first of seemed about to shoot first or was even armed. But thereyago. State police are investigating so it won't be a complete whitewash.

What, Chris?

Yeah, right. I already heard some of the discussions over on the board. Am I gonna put one up? Idunno, Markie is been gettin' down on people cussin' over there and all...

Nobody got much up so far. Jonestown paper didn't report on the Hughes shooting but they're usually about a week behind. Editorial section about as fair and balanced as it gets over there. A lucid commentary by a sane person and a deranged one by a homegroan kibitzer. And like almost always a dumbass cartoon. Alright, lessee what I can find....

I was reading this article and it talked about flying. Said we'd all become just like cattle, trusting our lives to people we don't even know. Like pilots. Said we do it all the time. And like as not, we get our heads bashed in, like cattle, for being so trusting. I mean, did you ever stop to think about that?
