That's the sexiest pic I ever seen of Lauren Hutton and it ain't even a photo. She was the small town TV reporter in Gator which was a kinda sequel to White Lightning. Use the same character and he had another adventure with gangs. Only instead of moonshiners and crooked sheriff it's an old buddy turned to crime and kind of a local crime lord. Supposed to look like a little city like Jonestown but was filmed in Savannah (Georgia) which is considerably larger. So while Lauren Hutton doesn't really pull off the small southern town aspiring TV news star she does all right. The feds threaten Gator's pa in jail and his little daughter in foster care so Gator goes undercover with a fed that forty years ago I would have found implausibly dumb and inept but would fit right in today. His old pal Bama McCall (Jerry Reed) is a nasty sort don't think nothin' of killin' inconvenient people but he still don't wanna kill his old friend when he finds out he's workin' for the law so he has his henchmen drug him and drive him to the county line figuring Gator will have the good sense to leave and stay left. Problem is the drug-addicted underage prostitutes a little much for Gator to overlook so he goes back and there a big fight and Bama gets what comin' to him. The pretty TV woman in love with him but she got the call and goin' to New York and Gator says well it was fun while it lasted but the city ain't for him.

The movie poster looks like one of the old Travis McGee covers and was painted by a fellow who done about a thousand book covers but dunno if he done any of the TM books. That's a style pretty common on pulp novels of the sixties and seventies and especially the noirish ones. Found a website with a lot of Travis McGee covers and may take a look and see if he did any.

Haven't seen Lauren Hutton in much or remember if I did. Embarrassed to admit that I saw American Gigolo (great Blondie song though) and Once Bitten (I like vampire movies but not comedies) and probably saw her in something I don't remember just now. Anyhow it a fun action movie and Burt was good and also directed. Of course Jerry was in the Smokey and the Bandit movies with Burt and in Stroker Ace which was a decent racing comedy. This was not.

Jonesbororightnow has this crime without the perp's name. And this one that's kinda humorous. Dunno why no names - got everything else, everybody else publishes it, not like they're gonna sue you for reporting that they got arrested.

Hays is closing one of their stores in Blytheville. Dunno how many places they have stores like in Wynne and used to in Jonesboro - one was real nice and in a better part of town and there'd be a smaller one in a less nice location but closer to where less affluent people lived. In Wynne a lot of people called the not so good one "ghetto Hays" the the other was just Hays usually. Still that way in Wynne. The ghetto one is a old building that was a Big Star store when I was a kid. The regular Hays is an old Wal-Mart building. That Wal-Mart was the first one built in Wynne and it was probably forty years before they built a new one. Dunno if the setup is Blytheville is ghetto and regular or what, just they closing one and gonna fix up the other some.

Nah, don't wanna talk about that one. Didn't like reading it and don't like thinking on it.

Not much more news that ain't sports. KAIT has Dissociated Press pieces on Trudy bailing out of the Prime Minister job in Canada while President Trump was officially certified president. Naturally they had to take one last shot and accuse him of causing the dims to make that ruckus on 6 January four years earlier. It's a good look anyway - commie Trudy giving it up and the once and future President Trump preparing take assume them there reins of power. The freeing of Jan 6 prisoners from the gulag will be one of the most enjoyable. I wonder if the regime media will express their butthurt loudly or suffer in silence. Just kidding but the juxtaposition of Trudy's fall and President Trump's return on the same day is like the epically iconic image of the first assassination attempt.

What, Chris?

I looked earlier and grabbed a couple of pieces:

Gonna be lazy and use some snippets from Human Harvest. Probably gonna be in the house a lot bein' as it seriously cold out there and rest of week now looking good. Our protagonist done fell into the hands of the Medical Industry and they messed up the wiring connecting brain to body. Based on a true story as they say.

Jonestown paper had an article a few days back, can't find it now. Said they was redoing something in the editorial section. Today they got some stuff from Bloomberg - so far it's all lefty pseudointellectual stuff. No toons so far.

One would hope that with the change in the sociopolitical climate some of the big ones at least would start hiring some actually intelligent people who do the work to write intelligent and accurate stuff. One does believe that Substack is a good place to look for talent.

Guy from Forrest City gets caught with drugs in Jonestown is probably better off than getting caught with drugs in Forrest City. In Jonesboro at least you won't get beat up and stuff.... well sometimes you do. Belt Street runs through some bad neighborhoods. No names and they done released him so the jail inventory probly won't have it.

Anybody wanna know who's in jail in Izard County? There an Izard street in Forrest City and I used to wonder where the name come from. Seems Izard County is named after a guy that was governor of Arkansas before it was a state. Don't know about the street in Forrest City. Back in the day I had occasion to be in Calico Rock a few times but that about all I know about Izard County. Name kinda unusual though - makes me think of lizards for some reason. I think a guy what has a significant other named Elizabeth and lot times people call her Liz if she was really cool she wouldn't mind being called Lizard just by him and maybe real close friends.

Probly don't care about the Supreme Court kerfluffle. That's the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Looks like maybe get some snow. Need to make a short-timer calendar to check off the days to the end of February. Things usually getting tolerable by then. Kitty cats liking their winter accommodations with the heated bed. Okey-dokey, what we got?

Couple of arrests in Wynne, drugs and shootin-arns. There ain't much crime in the Progress so I don't know if that's because there ain't much crime or it doesn't get put in the paper. Hope it's 'cause there ain't much report.

No news is this news, which is to say that the news is that no new developments. That the shootin' what happened at a block party after something or other - prom or homecoming game maybe? Would April be when they have proms? Never did go to one myself. If I remember aright Carrie ended at the prom. That movie didn't scare me til the last few seconds when Carrie's hand come up outta the ground. Don't remember if Prom Night was scary or not.

Apparently the Hays store closin in Blytheville is the alternative Hays. Actually the person being interviewed put it another way. Didn't mean anything ugly by it, just regional dialect.

This on KJNB too. It about Fort Smith but these dudes would probably be right at home on the Jonestown PD.

Aside from that it's people behaving badly here and there. Child porn a little beyond misbehaving I'd say and got a couple of those. I used to sometimes wonder if people doing any kind of crime that gonna get them arrested don't think their picture gonna be there in the paper and on telly the Innerweb with your name and what you're accused of doing. I guess when you're that far gone you not worried about being embarrassed.

Just the usual so far. Assaults domestic otherwise, people gettin' ready for snow. KAIT national news off in a sidebar - Jimmy Carter wrapping up and the the one of the anti-Trump lawfare ops coming to a stopping place. One is tempted to assume that the judge will be interesed in his part coming to and end and pronounce a fine and/or suspended sentence. One might say he wouldn't try to inarcerate President Trump but this one has learned not to underestimate the insanity of these folks. Not just because they hate him so much but they'll be trying until 20 January to prevent him from being inaugurated and to get rid of him afterwards.

They want to hang the 'convicted felon' tag on him even knowing that once it's out of NY it'll be overturned even if it has go to SCOTUS. The likely reason (going the chatter in dimland) if he's a convicted felon he can't have access to classified info and the nuclear football. They really are that delusional and ignorant of facts. Ignorant of or ignoring that's the way their minds work - or don't work. ~ MAGAHertz
They'll probably to try impeaching him again another time or three and it would be amusing if it weren't so serious. Anyhow the Jonestown paper (the paper rack at my favorite convenience store has been empty the last few times I been there - dunno it's just Wynne of that particular place or if they ain't printing) had a commentary on the fiscal policy (Arkansas has a pretty good one compared to most) and a rerun of this. I'm not a Republican but vote only for Republicans because they're the lesser evil. I will give Carter credit for being the last president that wasn't abjectly corrupt. Everything since has been corrupt some outright Amercia-haters. I was in the U.S. Air Force and was in Europe the last three years of the Carter administration and couldn't wait to get my ballot marked for Ronaldus Magnus and mailed back. I don't believe Carter was at all corrupt and would probably forgive his ineptitude if not for a couple of things. The first was the ill-advised attempt to free the diplomats held by Iran. I don't know what went on his head - maybe the guys who wanted to do it convinced him it was doable - but the fact is he only did it because he was pretty sure he was going to lose the election and getting them out might give him a chance. It wouldn't have and a bunch of military personnel died. Biden got more killed in the botched Afghanistan withdrawal but one expects that sort of behavior.

His other sin in this one's judgment was continuing to be a tool of the party. He continued to bad-mouth Republican presidents right up through President Trump. If he had just shut up and built houses for poor folk I wouldn't have a bad thing to say whatever his failures as president.

New toon in the Jonestown paper. Not so much political but looking at his other work he seems to be a Trump-hater. Or a Republican-hater. Depending on how little success the dims and their pals have thwart President Trump's plans their distress may become even more enjoyable. I hope they have a whole lot of little.

Snowed last night and still snowing so gonna be inside a whole lot. Ain't supposed to warm up any time soon so it'l probly be around a while. Okey-dokey, what what we got?

This happens regularly in New York and California and them places. Lot of killins in Memphis too but this one wasn't just one or more young thugs shooting one or more other young thugs. That happens all the time. No, this was a non-thug and former military guy that apparently was in the wrong place at the wrong time. In Memphis any place can be the wrong place at any time. The murder victim was from Munford, little place on 51 past Millington. Used to get up there a bit, Milllington and was at Oakland and Brighton a few times. Long story Chris, nother time. Anyhow Munford and mostuv them little places got better demographic profiles than Memphis and that sort of thing don't happen much. Dunno why the victim was in Memphis - you gut about twenty lines in these articles and maybe one or two has some useful info. New Year's eve maybe went to a party or some something. I don't go to Memphis on any days. Don't wanna get kilt.

I been wondering for a while what it would take for this to happen. Probably should have a long time ago but I reckon the folks in Nashville know what gonna happen when they do which is why they didn't do it a long time ago. I've considered for a long time that the state government should have taken over the entire government - city or county or both it about the same. Dunno how that would work in Tennessee but it's near the time it should be done.

What Chris?

Nah, back in the day I worked for B&H in Jonestown. Had a lot of small bank customers all over the country. Couple at Brighton and Oakland. Got to know a lot of the people worked there. We'd talk about Memphis naturally and this gal tole me once, said "Memphis is a real big hick town." She right, I was there some, looked into working for a couple of companies there, did interviews. It like big city, nice offices and people all dressed up nice from the receptionist to the important person you was seein'. Tellya though, I interviewed with a compnany somewhere around 1988 or so, it like that, nice offices and well-dressed people and all. They hired somebody else and I went somewhere else and about nine ten years later they call me out of the blue. Got my resume off Careerbuilder or one of those sites. Out of curiosity I went in for an interview - by then I knew I wasn't gonna work in Memphis - and their offices locked down, just a little window in the entrance door, cipher locks (weren't using cards yet) and had to have a security guy escort me from the building entrance to their offices. Anyhow there was a guy still working there that was there and we jawed some and I did a perfunctory interview and left. Just looked a while ago and they're still in business but moved to Cordova. That out east a bit but not far enough for me. Ninety miles away over here in Arkansas sometimes don't feel like far enough 'cause Memphis comes over here.

KJNB has a bit of national news on their front page and they got this California Burning piece. That'd be a good movie title but that kinda move ain't likely to be made soon. Or maybe it will. This piece is unmitigated canine fecal matter but that's what you get out of mainstream syndication. Couple of bits:

Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, who was appointed in 2022 after two decades of service, was singled out in a series of X posts blaming her department's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy.

"She boasts about being the first female and LGBTQ fire chief in the LA Fire Department. Promoting a culture of DEI is her priority. Does this make you feel safer?" the anti-LGBTQ account Libs of TikTok posted on January 8 on X. ~ KJNB
No you freaking moron it doesn't. What would make me feel safe is knowing that firefighters and police are competent and mentally and physically capable of doing their jobs. I don't care what color they are or what sex they are or who or what they do sex with or anything else about them except that they can and will do their job. How come the writer didn't tell the other side. When asked about physical fitness for firefighting maybe being compromised the diverse (looks like only two boxes checked) LAFT Assistant Fire Chief said:
The part of the video grabbing everyone's attention in the most jaw-dropping way is when she answers a simple question: Would you be physically able to carry my husband out of a fire to safety?

Her response was absolutely insane. It'll leave you wondering if this clip is actually an SNL skit. Spoiler alert: sadly, it's not. According to this lumbering woman, if your 'stupid' husband finds himself in a house fire, that's his own fault for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. ~ revolver.news
Just noticed a big fire in NYC. That's mostly asphalt and concrete and brick and stuff so it's easier to contain fires. The only price for DEI there is everything costs twice as much as it should and takes longer and more people but the misery is inclusive. The people who don't want to be included in the misery are leaving and going to Texas and Florida and other non-crazy places.
With the Trump administration California and New York aren't going get away with as much and if the reform attempts (DOGE) make any progress at all they're going to get hit between the eyes with a piece of 2x4 reality. A few years of deportations and cutting the flow of illegals and migration out of those states they may lose a few more congressional seats in the next census. California especially had better implement fire solutions. ~ ErictheRad@MyndCryme

I'm gonna call it a week a little early.

Gator: I want to ask you something, and I want you to tell me the truth. Did you ever kill anybody? Bama: (with good ole boy grin) No so's you'd notice.

Chapter 08 Light at the window. Getting earlier, day by day. What is it? April. Need to be getting, every day. Can't fix my mind if it don't fix the body too. Not ready to get up. Need to though. Pillow sure feels good. Tum it over. Cool, soft, stay a while. No dammit! Slide over. Bed really low, one leg drops to floor. Reach over, catch myself. Other leg, on my knees. Kinda. Morning.
