With so much happening it's tempting to just sit back and enjoy the show. For some reason the Democrats didn't even attempt the usual
"government shutdown" - I would have thought they would at least try to see if they could do some damage to President Trump. Opinions
and theories vary around here and I won't try to guess which one or two of these:
-
Internal polling indicated that the Democrats would get almost all the blame and they don't need to make things worse.
-
The Epstein files are being used to keep legislators of both parties from getting out of line - there may be some Republicans but most
of the vulnerable ones are Democrats.
-
Some Democrats believe that President Trump would be able to fire even more federal workers during a shutdown.
-
Schumer wasn't sure he had the votes to stop it.
I don't see it being the last one - seven Democrats being against it until they were given permission but anything is possible. I like
the first one as they are in big trouble and figure they don't need any more just now. I suspect that the only thing that will slow the
pace of firing is when enough have been fired. Whatever the situation with the Epstein files it is almost certain that more Democrats
are likely in there than Republicans. The only Republican senator I can think of right of is Lindsey Graham. The way he behaves it
seems as if more than one entity has something on him but it may be that is just the way he is.
As for people being fired the
sleeper cells
placed in the judiciary by Democrats are doing their best to slow that as they are with
deportations of illegals.
That these judges do not have the authority to do so has in the past been ignored (even by President Trump in his first term) they continue to be a problem until
they are put in their place and the likelihood of the
Supreme Court
doing that is at best fifty-fifty. It may be that it will take President Trump being like Andrew Jackson - it does seem that if pushed far enough he might do it.
I would like it better if one of the Democrat justices retires in the next couple of years and Justice Thomas doesn't do like Ginsberg. I doubt that he will but
finding a replacement of his caliber and character may be difficult.
What I most hope for in the short term is for the Republicans to hold both houses in the midterms and ideally to pad their lead, especially in the House. They
seem to be holding it together better this time around. The knowledge that they will be primaried with a much higher chance of success than in the past may be
causing some of them to behave.
The good news for now is that the Democrats are in deep trouble and it's getting worse by the day. Schumer's attempt to avoid trouble has fractured the party
even more and while he is unlikely to resign as minority leader he might not be elected next time. The fact that some in the party is spending this much
money to promote its
two looniest members
suggests that it there was a vestige of sanity in the party it is about gone.
That must have cost some serious money even if they get bulk pricing from Rent-a-Mob. I don't believe it is sustainable for a tour.
Still they spent billions losing the election and don't seem to have learned much.

I realize there are dumber Democrats than Ocrazio but can't think of a senator loonier than Sanders. If there is he may be the next minority leader.
The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it
is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation;
those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it.
If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging
error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit,
the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error.
John Stuart Mill, On Liberty
It doesn't benefit me to lie to people. They're
eventually going to find out the truth, and then where
am I? That's the problem with liberalism and
socialism, by the way: it has to be propped up by
lies.
