I've been around long enough to know that all politicians are as Alex says lower than Tubifex worms. Obviously Donald Trump is not a politician and such men as Pete Hegseth and Kash Patel are not politicians any more than Steve Bannon is. Bannon probably is hated more than Trump but Trump is the one in power and so gets most of the hate - the regime had indicted Bannon on another bogus charge with the intention of trying and convicting (see how that works) him and putting him away for a long time. I hope President Trump remembers to deal with that - either have the DOJ dismiss it or pardon him for everything for the last forty years or so since that appears to be possible. Actually I have a thought on that later but for how I should observe that Steve needs to be an important part of Trump's inner circle. They seem to be close and it may be that he'll be more low-profile but more influential.

In some ways Republican pols are lower than Democrats who don't try to hide what they are. The usual suspects are preening and strutting and not caring how much hatred they engender with their antics. Lindsay Graham seems to have gotten his mind right after is tail-fanning but he may revert tomorrow or the next day and then switch back again. Come to think of it he probably will but is reliable for almost all of Trump's cabinet picks. He might have even approved Gaetz had he stayed in. Joni Ernst is another matter - is she dumb enough to not confirm Hegseth or Patel or possibly another especially strong appointment. I'm guessing at this point she is just yammering to hear her sound bites being played. That should tell you something about her character.

Enak says I should put links in so people can see what I'm talking about sometimes. I sometimes expect people to just knows what I'm talking about even if I'm quoting Michael Moorcock or John Varley.

Do I think Ernst will do the right thing? I strongly suspect that she is just yammering to hear herself yammer but she should by now be getting two ears full of advice to do it. She's up for reelection in two years and the warnings are coming in thick and fast that she's going to be primaried. She already admitted she yieldedto her constituents on the disgraceful border bill so maybe she's getting religion.

The thing is that depending on two or three RINOs not torpedoing a nominee presumes that all Democrats will vote against them. I suspect that will be the case. Jesse Kelley among others just pointed out that Ernst voted for tha travesty Lloyd Austin for the position she is now pontificating about how she has carefully consider Hegseth. She voted for a... I almost said literal and Alex hates that.. DEI hire that is little better than an idiot. So it looks like she's just hooked on cheap endorpin rushes. Probably she replays the videos of her being interviewed. Probably? You know she does. I do strongly suspect that if she doesn't get her mind right she may be one of the first to fall in the 2026 primaries.
